UTA takes first place at Annual Texas Autocross weekend
The UTA team won both the slower morning endurance track and the faster afternoon track.
UT Arlington’s Formula SAE racing team took first place in all events at the seventh annual Texas Autocross Weekend this past Saturday. Competitors raced their Formula One-styled mini-cars through cone tracks, going for best times. The University team won both the slower morning endurance track and the faster afternoon track. Started seven years ago by UT Arlington Mechanical Engineering Professor Bob Woods, the event has since grown both in size and stature. Collegiate racing teams from Texas, Alabama, Kansas, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota competed in events at UT Arlington and at Texas Motor Speedway. Collegiate teams were timed by a local autocross club, Equipe Rapide. The cars are designed and built by college students for the Society of Automotive Engineers’ Formula SAE competition held annually in Detroit and around the world.
