Harry Potter induces mania across North Texas

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (4)

Some fans go to any lengths to prove their Harry Potter devotions, including staffer Chad Jones.

For those of you deeply enthralled with Harry Potter culture: count 'em. Less than 8 hours until the final book is released. Run, don't walk, to the nearest bookstore and save your place in line, because they will be oh so long. There are 6,245, give or take, Harry Potter events, sales and parties that you can attend to hang out with others who share your uncanny obsession with these magical magician characters. For those of us who could give a crap about Harry Potter, sit tight. This should be the last one. Which means zero more years of book releases, and only a few more years of Harry Potter movie madness.

The Barnes and Noble in Cedar Hill was doing it up right. The double door entry was painted as a portrait of "The Fat Lady". Costume contests drew dozens. Guessing the numnber of Botts' Beans in a Bowl earned the guesser a "snitch". Polaroids of the fan along Harry (or a lifesized cardboard facsimile thereof) were taken for one and all. Great fun.

Stopping for milk on the way home, found a similar happy crowd getting copies at the Kroger. Not quite as elaborate a deal, but pretty cool for a grocery store.

Elder daughter sent off to bed with the new book and strict instructions not to stay up "too late". We'll have to see...
