— On Saturday, July 28, 2007, over 120 children from 10 area shelters will debut their final performance after attending Rainbow Days unique performing arts camp, Camp Broadway. Camp Broadway, July 24-28, is a special performing arts day camp designed especially for homeless children hosted by Rainbow Days in collaboration with Hillcrest Church in Dallas. This creative camp culminates with a special performance on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hillcrest Church Performing Arts Center entitled “The 5 Hip Hop Buroughs” directed by Catherine Deeken. Hillcrest Church is located at 12123 Hillcrest Road and this final performance is a great family event that is free to the public and visitors are welcome to attend.

Camp Broadway provides a fun and drug-free opportunity for children residing in homeless and domestic violence centers to “get away” from the shelter and focus on building their self esteem, discovering new talents, practice team work and have fun together. Children will create their own props, design sets, rehearse lines and prepare for a special performance at the conclusion of the camp. The rehearsals throughout the week also include Rainbow Days award-winning “life-skills support groups” that teach children important life skills of how to resist negative peer pressure, make healthy choices and how to say “no” to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. The camp experience can be life changing for many homeless children who rarely get to participate in school performances. Seeing their children perform is equally powerful for the homeless parents, who almost never see their children celebrating or being celebrated.
