Dance review: Encore School of Dance at Sundance Square
FORT WORTH While evening showers washed out the free showing of “Grease” in Sundance Square Thursday night, July 26, the silver lining was the pre-movie entertainment by the Encore School of Dance.
From a high-energy rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” to a graceful tap number and beautifully choreographed dance routines, a dozen young ladies from the Saginaw dance studio entertained guests for about a half hour before the heavens opened up.
Guests gamely covered up with blankets and umbrellas as if these unseasonable showers have just become a part of this summer’s routine. But, after waiting patiently for about half an hour, the event finally had to be cancelled.
“It’s unfortunate that we had to cancel the movie, but the video and sound equipment can’t be operated in the rain,” explained Tracy Gilmour, Sundance Square’s marketing director. “The Encore dancers were a big hit with the crowd. At one point, the rain let up and a magnificent rainbow spread across downtown. But the radar showed a solid line of storms headed our way, so we had to cancel while people could safely pack up and leave. Many people regrouped at Starbucks , 8.0 and other area restaurants and clubs.”

“Several guests asked if we could reschedule “Grease” for next month,” said Ms. Gilmour, “but we have already committed to show “Ghostbusters” August 30. However, the public can go to www.sundancesquare.com to vote for their favorite movie to determine our September film.”
Sundance Square’s “Stars under the Stars” movie series offers a free family-friendly movie the last Thursday night of each month on a giant 50-foot wide by 40-foot high screen in the Chisholm Trail parking lot at Fourth and Main Streets.
Founded in 1994 by director Michelle Davis, Encore School of Dance is the largest dance school in Northwest Tarrant County, offering classes in everything from ballet to hip hop.
