Southwest High School wind ensemble named State Honor Band finalist
Fort Worth ISD’s Southwest High School Wind Ensemble came home from San Antonio last week as a Texas Music Educators Association State Honor Band Finalist for 2008. The ensemble took third place out of seven finalists from across the state.
The group competed at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in a field of 14 bands. The top seven bands are recognized as State Finalists, and the winner of the competition will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2008.
Southwest’s Wind Ensemble, led by head Director Stacey Dunn, performed a demanding program including Esprit de Corps by Jager, Enigma Variations by Elgar/Slocum, and Symphonic Movement by Nelhybel.
After the initial tallying of the judges’ scores, Southwest was tied for second place with Centennial High School. The tie was broken by the individual judges’ rankings, which moved Southwest to 3rd place.
“Once again, the Southwest High School Band has made us all extremely proud,” says FWISD Instrumental Music Director Christina Walk. “Stacey Dunn has made a huge commitment to serve these young students and lead them to the highest achievement in the state of Texas.”
