Flower Mound man attempted to buy a child for sex
Kevin Russell Moake, 49, is now officially a finalist as scum of the year after trying to buy a child for sex. According to Dallas County police, Moake couldn't decide whether he would actually buy the 9-year-old girl or just "rent" her because he didn't have anywhere to keep her for a long period of time. After a quick police investigation, set-up, and arrest, Moake is now in Dallas County Jail on suspicion of attempting to traffic humans and trying to have sex with a child.

Sanders Kaufman, says:
Moake is far from the worst of them.
A far bigger scumbag is the Collin County DA who chose to dismiss ALL of the TCAP sting pedophiles.

Do you make such obviously inane statements to provoke; or do you actually believe what you wrote?

A man who would attempt to purchase a little girl for his sick entertainment is at the pinnacle of the trash heap. There is no comparison between a monster like that and any public servant.

He's just one man.
But the so-called "public servant" put and additional 41 of him back out on the street AFTER they were caught red-handed.
Furthermore, that sends a message to the kajillion other child predators in the DFW area that it's open season on little kids.

While it's sad that these people were let off, if you read the linked story you'll see what the real issue is: It is, like so many issues in our legal system, not about guilt or innocence. The fact is that with the circumstances of the set-up, including the fact that many of these men were lured to Texas from out of state for the sting (not in the link, but confirmed via KRLD), there was little chance of getting a conviction.
That means the DA had to make a choice about use of public resources to protect the local public. Unless you have specific information on his record and that he is soft on pedophiles, it looks to me like he was faced with a tough choice and did his job -- go after as many convictions as he can get.
What this says to me is that law enforcement should increase their efforts to sting local pedophiles and ratings-grabbing networks might admit that their efforts are more useful in attracting Whirlpool ads than in convicting pedophiles.

Vigilantism should never be encouraged. It serves no purpose to anyone except for those taking the law unto themselves. The rule of law must prevail, even if we don't always like the result.

Sanders Kaufman, says:
Actually, the convictions were already in the bag. Most of the people caught in the TCAP stings choose to plead guilty rather than go to trial and risk a more punitive punishment than the one offered.
Is it fair? No. But it's just.
He COULD have gotten those convictions - but public relations trumped justice.
The basis for this warped set of values is a belief held by the Republican politicians in Collin County that says it's more important for people to FEEL good about their safety, than for that safety to actually exist.

Sanders Kaufman, says:
Dylan - this sting does not fit the definition of vigilantism because they were not imposing punishments upon the predators.
While that word is a fun one to use, it simply does not apply here.

Mr. Roach is on the Board of Directors for the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center.
Please enlighten me on how not pursuing those convictions is a type of public relations move. After that, continue with educating me on how this makes residents of Collin County feel safer.
If nothing else I admire the man for choosing what was correct rather than what would be more popular.

TCAP was not enforcing laws, nor did they pretend to. They simply flushed out the criminals.
They left the actual law enforcement duties to the cops and DA. The cops did their part; the DA did not.
Beyond that - the DA did not give any legitimate reason for failing to enforce the law.

Convictions would show Collin County to be the hotbed of pedophilia that it is.

I never meant to imply that it was a effective strategy. Indeed - I think it was downright counter-productive.
This is a common character flaw with religious zealots in the GOP. They just don't seem to get that covering up a crime is often WORSE than the crime itself.
