Sunday evening (June 3), from 6 - 8:30 p.m., the Granada Theater hosts the Pet Flix 2007 Film Festival, co-sponsored by the SPCA of Texas.
Pet Flix 2007
- When: Sunday, June 3, 2007, noon
- Where: Granada Theater, 3524 Greenville Avenue, Dallas
- Cost: Not available
- Age limit: All ages
The focus here is on short films, documentaries and music videos from across the country starring animals of all varieties - well, as many varieties as the festival organizers could pull together and fit into an hour and a half of run-time. I mean, don't go in expecting Noah's Ark on film.
Still, there's going to be a lot of furry (and feathered? and finned?) friends getting screen-time, and simply by attending (by virtue of your $10 admission) you'll be donating to a great cause: all proceeds benefit the programs and services of the SPCA. Why, there'll even be some real live critters up for adoption outside the theater starting at 4:30 - so bring your empty dog collars. (I mean, the ones for actual dogs, not that other sort.)
What's that, bone-breath? You say you want more excitement for your tax-deductible ten bucks? Well, hold onto your spay/neuter implements, because as part of the program, a panel of celebrity judges will be in attendance to decide on Best Overall Picture, Best Short Tail and Best Long Tail. That team of worthies will include Tony Zazza from The Morning Mix (as MC); Victoria Snee (Morning Mix co-host and CW33 Entertainment Reporter); Larry and Martha Powell; Gary Cogill, some kind of half-baked local movie reviewer (no, wait - I'm projecting!); and James Bias, president of SPCA of Texas.
Go here to pre-order tickets; the venue advises that last year's show sold out early, so don't risk ending up in the doghouse by waiting until the last minute.

I hope you really are a judge, John. You're without a doubt the top movie critic in this town. Now you just need to get more people here reading you.
