The VIPER division's tactics may have finally run afoul of the law

— According to this story in the Dallas Business Journal, it appears a 61 year-old Plano man and former Ernst & Young employee is being charged with tax fraud by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Southern District of New York.

Robert Coplan, along with three other employees, headed up a special division of Ernst & Young's VIPER program, created to give wealthy patrons tax shelters. The program was designed for customers worth in excess of $10 million to avoid or eliminate their tax debt. The four men are accused of destroying documents and making false statements to the IRS.
