Carrollton-Farmers Branch I.S.D. Educational Foundation awards nearly $35,000 in teacher grants

"We are proving every day that students' lives are enriched by providing innovative programs in the classroom, as well as scholarships."

— According to Pam Pena, community relations specialist, for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Educational Foundation, the foundation awarded nearly $35,000 to teachers in an amount up to $3,000 for innovative programs which have a potential to enhance student learning.

What is the foundation and who makes it possible for this to happen?

“The foundation was established in 1997, and is a nonprofit organization that supports campuses, teachers and students with funds for grants and scholarships,” said Pena. “Monies come from community donors, business donors and individuals.

“We are proving every day that students’ lives are enriched by providing innovative programs in the classroom, as well as scholarships.”

In order to be chosen as a candidate for grants, teachers are required to apply to the Vice President of Grants and Allocations who presents chosen applicants to the Board of Directors in early spring, Pena said. Awards are presented in May.

“The grant money will greatly relieve the burden of college expenses and enrich my college experience,” said R. L. Turner High School scholarship recipient Katie Tippett.
