DALLAS From the DMN blog comes news that Deep Ellum Cafe has closed. The phone number is temporarily disconnected, so there'll be no actual quotes here from the team of new owners, who'd resuscitated the place in February, about the difficulties of keeping a business afloat in Deep Ellum, nor the inherently quixotic nature of trying to resuscitate a restaurant after it's closed once already.

The first time around, it was the sleeper of all sleepers and had one of the best Sunday brunches in town. Except, of course, stepping around all the 3am street trash from the night before!
Their Addison location -- where Trulucks is now -- was also consistantly very good. It was a Bohemian respite from the"gah-gah look at my boobs and my pecs" plastique that has always personified that stretch of Beltline.
Don't it always seem to go... that you call the 2nd floor the 7th... or some such thing...

You don't have to go all the way to Beltline for that.
