After receiving a copy of their debut album, Yardling (review coming soon), it was clear that The Demigs were a group that we needed to bring in. Hailing from Denton, this young band is not yet very well known around Dallas. If you ask anyone who's seen them or other Denton bands that have shared the stage with them, however, it becomes evident that The Demigs are one of those local bands to keep an ear on.
Earlier this week all four band members packed into the bassist's car, cigarettes in tow, and trekked down 635 for a nighttime interview. As one can imagine, strange questions and discussions come up at such post-work hours. With this in mind the interview below is broken into two parts:
Part One: Sensible Questions, Quasi-sensible Answers
Demigs Interview (Part One)
- How the band got together and later where the name The Demigs comes from (it's pretty obvious if you're paying attention)
- How to describe their music and what other bands inspire them
- Putting together Yardling
- The Denton/Dallas music scenes
- Upcoming shows
- and some light nonsense...
Part Two: Somewhat-less-sensible Questions, and, err, you be the judge on the answers
Demigs Interview (Part Two)
- Emo is worse, no screamo, no emo, no scre-, uh, em-, ugh
- Explaining some lyrics including what a "vicodin haircut" is and shedding light on the songs "Dulce" and "Summer Spiders"
- Quite possibly the best question ever to not be answered by a current Dallas mayoral candidate (the Demigs answered it, at great length, thank goodness)
- and quite a bit more nonsense
Now, all of you may not be as lucky as I to have a CD and a vinyl copy of Yardling, but worry not. You can check out five of the songs from the album by clicking on the song list below - careful, they're quite addictive.

Who was the guy who wrote a review calling this band screamo? That's like the kiss of death. Poor Demigs; they're too talented for that.
