UPDATED: Dallas City Council member Leo Chaney supports statue of Leo Chaney — but Council does not
He appears to still be working through the saying that "we must first love ourselves before we can be loved by others". UPDATE: There's not enough love -- for now.
UPDATE
The Council sent the whole cockamamie thing back to Parks and Rec to try again.
DALLAS The DMN has a story that'll make your head explode, about Dallas City Council member Leo Chaney trying to get a statue of himself in a public monument.
Previously rejected by the Dallas Park and Recreation Board (because the public hadn't been able to offer input), the "Walk of Fame" monument would honor 114 various black bigwigs -- with not only Chaney on the list but also his parents. Chaney's statue would purportedly be bigger than statues of NBA star Larry Johnson and singer Erykah Badu.
He was so hot to get his statue that he tried to raise funds to pay for it but couldn't come up with all the money.
They're supposed to vote on Wednesday on whether to spend more money to expand the project.

$600+ G's for this thing. And the article says that he won't even show up on Wednesday to face the public ire over thing. What a way to leave your mark at your last council meeting.

This is truly... so despicable. South Dallas has real needs, how do our leaders look themselves in the mirror?
