Dolores Wolfe earns city council recognition for community service

— Dallas Mayor Laura Miller and the Dallas City Council have recognized White Rock Hills resident Dolores G. Wolfe for her community service, including her role in helping close the blighted Ash Creek Mobile Home Park. Ms. Wolfe was honored at a reception May 26, 2007.

In its special recognition to Ms. Wolfe, an attorney with the Dallas law firm Cowles & Thompson, the city council wrote that Ms. Wolfe “has shown tireless commitment to improving her community and the City of Dallas by donating her legal and professional expertise” to a number of public service projects.

In the Ash Creek matter, Ms. Wolfe worked pro bono on behalf of 12 homeowner's associations to close the mobile home park. In August 2005, she filed an application with the Dallas Board of Adjustment asking that the City require the owner to improve unsanitary conditions and bring the park into code compliance or close the park. The BOA ruled that the park was a detriment to the surrounding community and ordered that the park close. Ms. Wolfe then opposed the owner’s efforts to get the park rezoned, which would have allowed the detriment to remain. She attended a number of hearings, presenting evidence and arguments, and submitted extensive briefing to the BOA and the zoning commission.

“It comes down to wanting what is best for our community, and for East Dallas,” says Ms. Wolfe. “I am glad I was able to help our neighborhood, and am humbled that my efforts have been recognized. However, this result would not have been possible without the community’s support and the hard work of The City of Dallas.”

In addition to Ash Creek, she has been instrumental in the demolition of both the crime-ridden Fair Park Inn and another dilapidated property on Lakeland Road. The closing of the Fair Park Inn earned Ms. Wolfe the 2005 Shining Star Award from the City of Dallas and Councilman Leo Chaney.

“The people of the Ferguson Road Initiative will forever be in your debt,” says William Coleman, President of the Ferguson Road Initiative, in a letter of support to Ms. Wolfe. “You have been true friends to the neighborhoods of White Rock Hills, from crafting a legal strategy to close and demolish a crime infested, dangerous motel, to removing an improperly zoned property rampant with health and safety violations.”

Ms. Wolfe is a Senior Counsel in the Business Litigation Section of Cowles & Thompson. She is board certified in Consumer and Commercial Law, and is a former president of the Securities Section of the Dallas Bar Association.
