Renee Exler of Dallas was recently honored for working with CPS.

— Renee Exler of Dallas was recently honored as the GEICO Volunteer Service Award winner for her work to serve children through CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) and by working closely with Child Protective Services. Award ceremonies took place June 18 in Washington, D.C.

Exler, a claims supervisor in GEICO’s Dallas regional office for 18 years, has served as a court appointed guardian through CASA for three years.

“I’ve always wanted to help kids,” Exler said. “My work with CASA has its joys and frustration; it requires a lot of patience but is very rewarding. The children want to live in stable homes and be loved. I’m glad I can help them along the way. I am proud to be a CASA volunteer and I’m proud to work for an organization like GEICO that recognizes and rewards my efforts.”

Exler acts as a liaison between children, foster families and the biological families to ensure that children in troubled families reside in safe and healthy environments. Her duties entail reviewing the facts of each case, investigating the situation, monitoring the children’s welfare while in foster care, monitoring the progress of biological parents, and testifying her findings in court on behalf of the children.

Exler was treated to a weekend trip to Washington, D.C. She received a certificate of appreciation, a cash award, and a $1,000 contribution in her name to CASA.

CASA was founded in 1977 and started with 50 volunteers. It now has over 50,000 volunteers throughout the country and has helped over one million children.
