Early Saturday morning, firefighters were called in to put out a blaze set at the Bethesda Baptist Church of Saginaw on Belmont Street. The sanctuary room was completely destroyed by the fire, though it now may appear that the church was targeted as part of a hate crime. A pagan hate crime. After assessing the damage, the Pastor noticed that crosses were turned upside down and rearranged on the walls of the room, and that there was candle wax dripped all around a burned Bible.
Freakin' pagans.

Vans Warped Tour 2009 Warped 2009 just began -- Dallas is only the fifth stop -- so Bad Religion, NOFX et al should still be dewy-fresh. Now on its 15th year, the punk tour's gotten tighter, with fewer stages and 40-minute sets instedda 30. Get there early for Colorado duo 3OH!3 and Brit punkers Gallows (pictured, credit Jay West). Maybe this will help them solve the crime

Says the S-T article:
"The pastor of a Saginaw church now believes a pagan ritual might be the source of a weekend fire in the sanctuary."
If only life were that mystical. But most likely the culprit is just your average iconoclastic teenager who thinks vandalism is funny but took it too far. See below:
And is an upside-down cross really an adopted and recognized "pagan" symbol or just something non-Christian people do to be irreverent?

It's actually an ancient symbol of the Knights Templar... apparently their insidious machinations now extend to Sagninaw.

To the anon first poster, it looks like you drank the KoolAde. That chart is total bunk, falsification, hoohaw, "weapons grade balonium", bovine afterproduct, (insert synonym here).
The "news" article was abridged to the point of failing to relate the "person of interest" being sought when items from the church were found in his house. The fire was apparently set to hide a theft, with the additional stage setting to make it appear as if "Satanists" had performed the crime. This wasn't an act performed by Pagans, it was by someone who was nominally a Christian, but not a very good one.
The pastor of this Podunk church should be apologising to the Pagan community for blaming them for the crime. Our Social Action committee will consider taking a collection next Sunday so that immediate needs not met by insurance might be met, but I don't think Bethesda Baptist Church will accept a donation from our openly Pagan UU Church. I could be proved wrong, though.

Are you suggesting that there is a version six to "The Pagan Hierarchy?" It is important to keep up.
Watch for this at the trial, then:

I thought pagans didn't believe in Satan. I thought only Christian heretics could be satanists, since only Christians believe in Satan as an actual entity and not just an allegorical concept.

Isn't it obvious that the pagan hierarchy is tongue in cheek? I hate to see well meaning people get up in arms about a misperceived joke.

That's a contender for our new corporate slogan...

Well, as we who embrace grace have known for years, hell hath no fury like a Saginaw Baptist facing a burning bush! Or something.
Maybe this was a scriptural demon with a possessed Bic.
Or possibly a witch's brew gone flambé'.
Shall we pray?
