Pagans believed to have set fire to Saginaw church

After assessing the damage, the Pastor noticed that crosses were turned upside down and rearranged on the walls of the room, in addition to other potential signs.

Early Saturday morning, firefighters were called in to put out a blaze set at the Bethesda Baptist Church of Saginaw on Belmont Street. The sanctuary room was completely destroyed by the fire, though it now may appear that the church was targeted as part of a hate crime. A pagan hate crime. After assessing the damage, the Pastor noticed that crosses were turned upside down and rearranged on the walls of the room, and that there was candle wax dripped all around a burned Bible.

Freakin' pagans.

If only life were that mystical. But most likely the culprit is just your average iconoclastic teenager who thinks vandalism is funny but took it too far. See below:

The "news" article was abridged to the point of failing to relate the "person of interest" being sought when items from the church were found in his house. The fire was apparently set to hide a theft, with the additional stage setting to make it appear as if "Satanists" had performed the crime. This wasn't an act performed by Pagans, it was by someone who was nominally a Christian, but not a very good one.

The pastor of this Podunk church should be apologising to the Pagan community for blaming them for the crime. Our Social Action committee will consider taking a collection next Sunday so that immediate needs not met by insurance might be met, but I don't think Bethesda Baptist Church will accept a donation from our openly Pagan UU Church. I could be proved wrong, though.
