Richardson City Council names Steve Mitchell new mayor
Gary Slagel will be stepping down after 16 years as Richardson mayor after the city council voted in Steve Mitchell on Monday. Unlike most other cities, Richardson's mayor is appointed by the city council and not by popular vote. Steve Mitchell was a second term councilman.

Sadly this might signal the end of Richardson as a tech center. This maneuver was, for practical purposes, a coup. Some of the members voting against Gary Slagel lied to their supporters and said they would support him in weeks running up to the election.

Why, is Steve Mitchell anti-Tech? Where do you get this from?

It sounds like you are suggesting an orchestrated coup took place, or something to that effect. Who's to say Slagel didn't step down for personal reasons?

With reference to your first statement, I am only the reporter. People close to the situation are using your words.
I am confident that Slagel's displacement was NOT voluntary.

You called it J_Mortimer, though I don't see this change as a bad thing.
