Mavs draft Nick Fazekas and two Europeans you’ve never heard of
Greg Oden and Kevin Durant they are not
With no first round pick in the NBA draft, the Dallas Mavericks knew that their draft night might be fairly dull. The Mavs did have three second round picks and used them to draft power forward Nick Fazekas from Nevada (34th overall pick), shooting guard Renaldas Seibutis from Lithuania (50th pick overall), and power forward Milovan Rakovic from Lithuania (60th overall pick).
Fazekas is a decent pick at that point of the draft. At 6'11", Fazekas would ostensibly back up Dirk Nowitzki, and if he can give the Mavs a little bit of competent playing time, Avery Johnson would be able to reduce Dirk's minutes. Fazekas is a little scrawny, but he can shoot and has decent skills. He is a three-time WAC Player of the Year.
Seibutis and Rakovic will likely play in Europe next season. It's quite possible you may never see either in a Mavs uniform.
UPDATE: The Mavs traded Rakovic to Orlando for forward Reyshawn Terry from North Carolina.
