Mesquite takes the sparkle out of July 4

— Convinced it can't compete with other fireworks shows in the area, Mesquite has cancelled its July 4th celebration. No more fireworks at Paschall Park. On July 4th, the skies in Mesquite will be black.

But hey, no need to view this as a defeat. The strongest person is the one who knows his weaknesses. And if you really want to see fireworks, Mesquite has a list of the ones being held in neighboring towns on its Web site. Let's hear it for Mesquite: a town that's not only self-aware, but also a good neighbor. Hey ho.
