North Texas Tollway Authority gets tentative OK on State Highway 121 contract
In a 4-1 vote, the Texas Transportation Commission gave the contract to build and operate State Highway 121 in Collin and Denton counties to the North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA), over major competitor Cintra, a private Spanish company.
Cintra was endorsed by the Texas Department of Transportation and had a tentative go-ahead on the project. But a ruckus was raised about the monies not going to TEXANS, politicians piled on, and NTTA got the deal, although it's going to have to make financial amends with the Regional Transportation Commission and the Federal Highway Administration which said it wants to be reimbursed $300 million if the NTTA wins.

I don't see why it makes any more sense to pay rich Texans to drive on roads I paid for than to to rich Spaniards to drive on roads I paid for.

Ummmmmmm...the Texans you are paying are an entity that spends the money to run and build toll roads here.
They are not private, for profit corporations, either here or in Spain.
And, the road is not built yet, so you didn't pay for it. That's what the tolls are for.
