Theater Spotlight of the Week: Kevyn Robertson

So McKinney Summer Musicals is returning after 11 years this weekend with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, and I had to feature someone that has great involvement with this organization. Therefore, I interviewed Kevyn Robertson, the director and choreogrpaher who is also on the McKinney Education Foundation's board, which helped to bring back this summer program.

We talk first about her career in Dallas, what has made her settle in McKinney, and why she is attracted to musical theater. We then quickly start talking about the McKinney Summer Musicals, its history, what made it shut down before, and why it is being brought back.

I then ask her about obstacles that had to be overcome, the pressure of bringing this program back, and why they chose this piece as the comeback for MSM. Also, her husband is in the cast and I ask her about the dynamic of working with your spouse and directing him.

We end by talking about what this show will mean to the future of McKinney Summer Musicals and if the community can look forward to more summers to come.

The show plays until July 9, with performances on Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m., with a benefit show occuring tonight, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be reserved online.
