Three McKinney ISD high school dance teams win numerous awards
Dance teams from three McKinney Independent School District high schools recently participated in various competitions and won numerous awards.
The McKinney High School Marquette drill team traveled to Rowlett on Saturday, Feb. 24 to compete against more than 35 teams in the American Texas Regional Dance competition and returned with a total of 23 awards. The Marquettes won the Best in Class Large Team Officers Award, the Best in Class Elite Team Award, the First Runner-up Large Team Award, the Sweepstakes for Officers Award, the Sweepstakes for Elite Award and the Sweepstakes for Team Award. In addition they also received a Gussie Nell Davis Award in both Team and Elite categories for excellence in performance.
The Marquettes also received specialty judge awards for Officer Open, Officer Lyrical, Officer Jazz, Elite Modern, Elite Lyrical, Team Open, Team Pom and Team Hip Hop. Marquette officers received Best Choreography and Best Technique and the Elite Team received the Best Technique Award and the Best Precision Award.
Several individual squad members also won awards including Ashley Hallion and Crystal Jagours who received the Best in Class Large Team Duet Award. Stephanie Lynn Camp received a 4th place runner up soloist overall selection. Jagours also won the overall solo winner and received a $100 scholarship to attend dance clinics and an invitation to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The McKinney Boyd Bailadoras drill team competed in their first dance competition of the year on Saturday Feb. 24 at South Garland and also won several awards.
The team earned a Super Sweepstakes Trophy, a Silver Award in both Pom and Jazz and a Choreography award for Hip Hop.
The McKinney North High School NorthStar drill team also competed at the South Garland competition on Saturday and returned home with four awards in the Medium Team Division.
The NorthStars won the Perfect Sweepstakes Award, the Excellence in Precision Award, the Gold In Production Award and the Bronze In Kick Award
