McKinney North High School brings home many awards from state academic decathlon meet

The Academic Decathlon Team from McKinney North High School recently competed in the State AcDec Tournament in San Antonio and returned home with numerous awards.

Three students won gold medal awards. Ruben Gonzalez won a gold in the Varsity Division with 6,018.40 points and Alyssa Cowley won a gold in the Scholastic Division with 6,069.50 points. Elizabeth Waite won a gold in the Honors Division with 6,335.70 points.

Gonzalez took fourth place in Economics, sixth place in Math and seventh place in Social Studies. Cowley received a bronze medal for third place in the Interview competition, seventh place in Math and eighth place in Economics. Waite placed eighth in the Essay competition, ninth place in Economics and ninth place in the Interview competition.

Other McKinney North High School students that won awards at the State AcDec Tournament were Jeremy Ross who placed fifth in Math and ninth in Social Studies; Kristen Reinhard who placed 11th in Math; Anne Nagy who placed ninth in Math and 10th in Economics, Erin Knapik who received an 11th place award in the Interview competition; Molly Morin who placed seventh in Math and ninth in Economics and Matt East who received a seventh place award in the Interview competition.

The McKinney North High School Academic Decathlon Team was also awarded 36,090 points in ten tests of aptitude, skills and ability based on their knowledge of China.
