Free Agent meant free laughs and a free CD for me when they dropped in for an interview last Friday (you might have to pay for the CD, however). Matt a.k.a. Hoax and Vince a.k.a. LehtMoJoe were on hand to introduce us to Free Agent, a rap/hip-hop duo that has recently branched out with their own band to add a rock edge to their existing sound. The group has been praised for having an energetic and entertaining live performance by various sources, including Pegasus. You can see for yourself on March 22, as they share the stage with Salutations and Fab Deuce for the United DFW Music Showcase.
At the moment you can go to Free Agent's MySpace player to check out their songs with a live band. Then you can listen to the album versions of "On The Mic" and "Bring It Back Now" here, then talk about the nuances of adding a live band and the discrepancies between the songs to Tilly, your Pomeranian, as you two enjoy a nice quiet Sunday watching Scrubs reruns on Comedy Central sharing a tub of kettle corn. Or you could just listen to the songs, whatever is your thing.
Some of the randomness that took place during this interview included touching on the following topics:
- How Matt and Vince got started and then finding the other band members
- The story behind the name Free Agent
- Some stuff I never intended to talk about
- The album Attention, Center Of vs. their live performance
- Getting exposure through shows and battle of the band events
- Some more crap I never intended to talk about, but they talked about anyway, and I couldn't stop them, but to your delight and humor has been left in the audio
- Dallas music scene and what closing venues means for its future
