0

A citizen journalist from Lancaster sends along the following about the new city manager:

The Lancaster City Council named Ricky Childers as its new city manager on February 19. The council began its search shortly after outgoing manager, Jim Landon, announced he had accepted the manager’s job in Palm Coast, Florida.

Childers, a veteran city administrator with thirty-one years of service, began his career as neighborhood services representative in Abilene shortly after receiving his Political Science degree from Tulsa University in 1975. Beginning in 1977 Childers worked in various levels of city administration in Lubbock, Carollton and Arlington before becoming the city manager of Longview in 1999. He held this position until the fall of 2006 when he began providing professional services to the city of Longview on October 1, 2006, according to a story in the Longview News-Journal. Childers was selected from a field of five candidates. Although he will not officially begin his duties until April 1, Childers has been in town attending various board and committee meetings.

His most notable accomplishments and awards include Outstanding Alumni, Texas Tech; Liberty Bell Award, Texas Young Lawyer’s Association; Samson Mentor Award, Urban Management Assistant of North Texas; and the Leadership Arlington Sally Kallam Award;

The details of Childers’ contract are being negotiated.
