According to AP reports, "four major radio broadcast companies have tentatively agreed to pay the government $12.5 million and provide 8,400 half-hour segments of free airtime for independent record labels and local artists." This deal is meant to curb the illegal practice known as "payola," in which radio stations receive money or other incentives from record companies in exchange for airtime.
This could mean good news for local artists in the DFW area as one of the broadcast companies involved includes Clear Channel Communications, which as you know, owns everything ever made, including KDGE (The Edge) 102.1, Mix 102.9, 106.1 KISS FM, and 97.1 La Preciosa, among others. The other three broadcast companies are CBS Radio, Entercom Communications Corporation, and Citadel Broadcasting Corporation.
Local music on local radio stations? Wow, what a concept! We might have to give this whole "local" thing a thought.

Hmmm. I smells a rat. The government gets $12.5 million. Anyone think the major record companies gave them more money and comps than that?? Then the sleazeballs air 8400 HALF HOUR SEGMENTS that will include independent labels and local music. Will those air in the coveted 4 am to 4:30 am timeslot? Does that mean the other 23 1/2 hours a day will be free of such programming? When they finish airing the 8400 segments, are they free to go back to exclusionary programming around the clock? That 8400 is over how many stations over what period of time? What a GREAT deal. Bah.
Why aren't they revoking these broadcast licenses? They've "tentatively agreed"? WTF? The FCC licenses usage of the PUBLIC airwaves to these criminals. Why? They are cold busted, again. People need to go to jail and broadcast licenses need to be revoked.
We sure are lucky to have KNON. None of the hits, all of the time.
