The Rockwall girls basketball team needed extra time to beat Cy-Fair on Saturday night.. The Lady Jackets won 59-54 in overtime to bring home their first 5A state championship.

Rockwall finished the season with a 40-0 record. Coach Jill McDill's team who is only the third team in Texas to win 40 games. The victory caps off a perfect season, but it may help alleviate the pain of losing to Plano West in last year's final.

In different polls this year, the norm was Rockwall over Cy-Fair. USA Today's most recent poll, the Lady Jackets have jumped to No. 3 in the country with Cy-Fair at No. 5. Still, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches continued to rank Cy-Fair as the best in Texas.

In Saturday's game, Rockwall's Hayley Day and Genevieve Campbell made sure that everyone would know who was the best. Day, who was named MVP for the game, came out hot in overtime. She made five of the 11 points scored against Cy-Fair in overtime.

Campbell finished with 17 points, 7 boards and two steals. Rockwall's defense, which only five teams to scored over 50 points, kept Cy-Fair to 36.4 percent shooting in the game. They shut down the three-point shot, 1-for-7, for Cy-Fair in the first half.
