Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra violinist is a rock-climbing nut
Interesting read in the Idaho Statesman about Boise native Rebecca Stern, who is a violinist in the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and a rock-climbing nut, although the story doesn't say she does both at the same time. Now that is what America wants to see.
"In the kind of climbing I do, you start with a clean rock face, putting bolts into cracks and hope they stay. You have to understand the physics of falling, the way the equipment works and the physicality of it all. You have to be able to at the same time be completely aware of your surroundings and at the same time not be distracted, and do it 2,000 feet off the ground."
Whether she's dangling from 2,000 feet overhead or playing a concerto before 2,000 people, these two extreme pursuits help Stern strike a balance in her life, she said.
