Proposed TXU deal screws Texas for future energy

Email Print Tell us your story Comments (6)

The TXU deal may or may not happen. If it does as proposed (minus eight coal plants) the NYT reports a big fat no-duh: "Unless new generation is built quickly from some source, by 2009 energy production will fall below reserves recommended by the state operator of the power transmission grid for guaranteeing smooth operations during peak periods of high heat."

We had a greenie electrician come fix something at our house who said he was trying to become a distributor of solar electrical systems for homes. I told him, "That sounds cool." And he said, "Yeah, but it costs about $35,000." And I said, "Ah, I won't be buying that @#$%! any time soon, big fella!"

Good luck, capitalist innovators, you have my blessing.

It's called conservation, dammit!

Dude, I don't think I waste much energy. I drive a car for good gas mileage first and foremost, I always have. I buy the energy saving light bulbs, I use the fireplace, I have blankets in the house in the winter. That really doesn't help this situation now, does it?

It's called too many people and not enough energy.

No, it IS called conservation--something Texans are in general incapable of understanding. It's part of the idiotic culture here to pay too much, get too little, waste a lot and BRAG BRAG BRAG! Morons! Texas.....last in everything but BS!

Let's clarify my previous post so that some folks won't go ballistic and think I'm just a 'Texas-hater'--I'm not! Check out Michael Davis's DallasProgress blogspot posting entitled "Is Texas the Worst Place to live in the U.S.?" Some very thought-provoking and disturbing statistics there, category by category, to consider. If we truly love our state and care about its future and that of its children, I believe we must re-arrange our priorities.

I did read a cool article this week that said that some people with older homes are paying for systems with home equity loans because the little bit extra per month in mortgage pmts is worth being off the grid. On the average home, PV systems pay for themselves in 3-4 years.

The cost is around $15K and up once you factor in the tax credits for buying a system. What the Perry needs to do is use some of his slush fund money to make these systems more affordable...of course that won't make TXU more money (his ultimate goal).

When my wife and I build our own home (as contractors), we're getting a system for sure.
