Gov. Rick Perry pardoned Tyrone Brown, a prisoner from Dallas who was sentenced to life after smoking marijuana on probation.

The DMN 's Brooks Egerton describes Brown's ridiculous sentence as "symbolic of the ills of the Texas criminal justice system."

More than 800 people around the country contacted the governor's office in support of Brown, who's been in jail for 17 years. He'll be released next week; he'll have to report indefinitely to a parole officer, live with his mother, find a job, and get therapy to help re-enter society.
