Duncanville caps off perfect season with 5A basketball championship
Duncanville can officially call itself the top team in 5A Texas basketball.
The Panthers (39-0) defeated No. 2-ranked Kingwood, 60-46 on Saturday night. Duncanville's championship aspirations were never in any real jeopardy. The team trailed Kingwood (39-3) by two in the closing minutes of the first quarter, but went a on 15-0 tear that pretty much ended Kingwood's momentum for the game. The Panthers were up by 12 points at the half.
Duncanville defeated Mesquite 49-36 on Friday night to advance to Saturday's final.
This is Duncanville's third title in five visits to the state tourney. The team was hoping its eight year trend would continue this season. The team won its first title in 1991 and its second in 1999, eight years later.
