Massive collection of Holy Land antiquities opens in Fair Park

Ancient Treasures of the Holy Land Exhibit

Here's what you can see:

Inscriptions

Inscriptions over 4000 years old from Abraham's home, the city of Ur.

Pottery

Canaanite lamps and pottery from the time of the Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Weapons

Ancient weapons, including bronze spear heads, battle axes and a sword dating as early as 2200 B.C.

Wall Decorations

Fragments of wall decorations from the Ivory Palace of King Ahab and Queen Jezebel.

Dead Sea Scroll Artifacts

Portions of the Dead Sea Scrolls from Leviticus and Deuteronomy, including the portion from Deuteronomy that Jesus references in the New Testament “man can not live by bread alone.”

Other Artifacts

Egyptian artifacts, some over 5000 years old, including tear drop pottery, funeral items, and a beautiful turquoise colored, winged scarab.

Personal Items

Large storage jars and personal items, including a child’s sandal, found at Masada, the 1st Century mountain fortress site of one of the most heroic and tragic events in Jewish history.

Coins

Coins of Alexander and the Maccabees, including the earliest known image of the Seven Branched Menorah.

Caskets

The ossuary (casket) that many archaeologists think contained the bones of both Simon of Cyrenia, who carried the cross of Jesus, and his son Alexander, also mentioned in the New Testament account of the crucifixion.
