Pro-peace (not anti-war) rally comes to Dallas
We received the following from a Dallas Peace Center volunteer alerting us to the pro-peace march they will organizing on Monday, March 19th in Dallas:
I’m helping to organize a pro-peace rally on Monday, March 19, the unfortunate fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, at Mockingbird Station. Folks will leave at 5 p.m. and march westbound on Mockingbird to Potomac Park, behind the Park Cities Plaza (where the Le Madeleine and B&N are located next to SMU). Potomac Ave. will be blocked for an open mic block party.
The site was selected because the impending Bush library/institute/museum will be a symbol of the misinformation spread by the Bush administration leading up to the invasion of Iraq. (See: http://www.time.com/time/columnist/karon/article/0,9565,463779,00.html – a particularly interesting article to view in wake of the Scooter Libby conviction.)
This is not an anti-Bush protest, nor an “anti-war” protest. It is a rally calling for peace and for the end of violence in Iraq specifically. (Would you call a pro-life demonstration “anti-choice” or a pro-choice demonstration “anti-life”?) Many who are on board are protesting the Bush think tank, as well.
