Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth now offers free over-the-phone language interpretation
Limited-English proficient families who stay at the Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth can now communicate with staff and volunteers in more than 150 languages. CyraCom (SEAR-uh-com), a language services provider to more than 1,000 hospitals and health care facilities nationwide, has donated its over-the-phone interpretation service to the Ronald McDonald House location at 1004 7th Avenue in Fort Worth.
The new service allows House staff and volunteers to communicate face-to-face with House guests in more than 150 languages. The company’s dual-handset phone makes it possible to access a trained interpreter in an average of less than 15 seconds 24 hours a day.
“We work to let families focus on the health of their child in an environment where families can stay together when it matters the most,” said Myke Holt, Ronald McDonald House of Fort Worth executive director. “The language interpretation service CyraCom is providing the House is such a welcome addition. The service greatly benefits non-English speaking families and helps us to better communicate with them and understand their child’s needs.”
CyraCom CEO Michael Greenbaum added that being able to communicate in what is often a stressful situation helps bring comfort to worried parents. "You immediately see what a difference being able to communicate quickly and clearly makes. In our 12th year of creating communication bridges, we delight in being able to provide the link that patients' families need while their children are hospitalized in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex,” said Greenbaum.
