THINK interviews Bob Mong of the Dallas Morning News and Michael Cain of AFI Dallas
In tonight's episode of THINK, on KERA 13 at 7:30 tonight, Kris Boyd interviews Dallas Morning News editor Bob Mong. I personally prefer the original version, which was shot as THINK's pilot, featuring a discussion with Mong, Star-Telegram executive editor Jim Witt and myself.
I learned this week that that episode was shelved in favor of a one-on-one with Mong, because the folks at KERA felt like the three-person format didn't work as well as subsequent shows they'd done one or two one. I guess I can buy that, but in my entirely biased opinion, the three-way discussion was more interesting.
But it's still well worth watching, especially for the news junkies in the crowd.
One thing Mong said that I have to quibble with though: When discussing political coverage, he touted the DMN editorial board for sending out surveys to 160-odd candidates in the May elections, saying that they are the "only institution in this town that goes to that degree."
As of early next week, that'll be about 440 fewer than we're covering -- as we really follow suburban as well as City elections.
In the arts segment, Michael Cain talks about the upcoming AFI Dallas Film Festival.

atlasslipped, says:
Mong is full of it and everyone who ever worked there knows it.
Of course, a Belo executive WOULD brag about thinking of hiring consultants to solve the city's problems. That's worked out so well for Belo. (Q: How many McKinsey consultants does it take to screw up a newspaper? A: How many can you afford?)
A better interview would have been...with anyone else.
When I wasn't asleep, I was angry.

atlas, i remember the first few years when mong was made editor and his "yoda-esque silence" was mistaken for "wisdom". unfortunately for him, he had to open his mouth eventually
