St. Patrick’s Day on Greenville Avenue: good times

— Some notes from the 27th Annual Greenville Avenue St. Patrick’s Day Parade aftermath/block party, whose festivities began at about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and were still crackling 14 hours later:

  • Great day for it, gorgeous weather.
  • Good spirit; no one got really ugly.
  • The Toadies show at Energy Square was a nice complement. It was also packed. But when it was over, people streamed out and down Greenville Ave. in the most orderly manner imaginable.
  • A ton of taxicabs.
  • "I had to park about three blocks down the street -- I was here last year, and this year, it's definitely a little busier." -- Shawna Burns, server at Kirby's Steakhouse.
  • The streets were shut off at 6 p.m. for about an hour to clean up all the trash.
  • "I've been here since 7 a.m. and 14 hours later, I'm trying to get out of here, because I have to come back in at 7 a.m. tomorrow." -- Josh Lloyd, server at Cafe Brazil, 9:45 p.m.
