Rockwall City Council to look at potential smoking ordinance
Rockwall is the latest of many North Texas cities to take on the smokers.
The first "Action Item" on the Rockwall City Council's agenda for tonights meeting is:
Discuss and consider smoking ordinance requirements and take any action necessary.
While this could make Rockwall the latest North Texas city to put the health of its non-smoking citizens above convenience for its smoking citizens, it won't be until tonight that we have an idea of just how far-reaching any proposed smoking ordinance will really be.

Jim Carson, says:
So this is just health vs. convenience?
Is there no room in the debate for freedom and private property rights?

Alan Cohen, says:
It seems that the trend among North Texas cities that have passed smoking ordinances recently is to frame the debate primarily in terms of health.
However, I agree with Jim that private property rights should be a larger part of the debate if the ordinance is far-reaching enough to affect private businesses (such as restaurants, bars, etc etc).

Shawn Williams, says:
It's convenience for non-smokers too. Whenever I go into an eating establishment outside of Dallas, the first thing I notice is the smoke, and it sucks. At least there's one reason to be proud to be a resident of Dallas.
