Six more middle schools in Dallas ISD to add sixth grade
Six more Dallas ISD middle schools will add sixth grade in the 2007-2008 school year.
The schools are Fred F. Florence, W.H. Gaston, Robert T. Hill, John B. Hood, and Thomas J. Rusk middle schools, and W.E. Greiner Exploratory Arts Academy.
Two new middle schools opening in 2007-2008 also will have sixth grade.
At present, 20 middle schools are set up to serve sixth- through eighth-grade students.
Under the district’s sixth-grade transition plan, most sixth-graders are to attend middle schools in their neighborhoods. The plan seeks to relieve overcrowding and provide sixth-graders with more academic and extracurricular options.
The three-year span for middle schools provides ample time for students and school staff to build stronger relationships and smooth the transition from elementary to secondary school.
