Lancaster City Council discusses school police
In other business Monday night, March 19th, the Lancaster City Council had on their agenda to discuss an agreement with the Lancaster ISD regarding jurisdiction between the city police and the specialized police department for the schools.
An example of the points being clarified between the two police forces is a paragraph promising that the school police will not engage in vehicular pursuits within the city limits of Lancaster.
Which is mildly amusing since the school district just spent 2004 bond funds on several Ford "Interceptor" package Crown Victoria squad cars, outfitted with police equipment from a supplier doing business as "Pursuit Safety, Inc." However, the Intercept/Pursuit vehicles, (neither marked nor unmarked -- and why the LISD needs unmarked police cars is another good question for the city council to discuss) will, according to the agreement under consideration, be engaged in interceptions or pursuits.
