Applebee’s in Colleyville and Fort Worth to close

Those two Texas outlets are part of 24 Applebee's to close across the country -- the first sign of decline in what is an inexplicably popular juggernaut of a chain.

Applebee's International will close 24 poorly-performing branches in 11 states, including two in Texas: one in Colleyville and another in the Hulen area of Fort Worth.

That leaves a mere 22 Applebee's in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area to get your sizzlin' steaks, chicken broccoli pasta alfredo bowls, Tuscan pesto chicken ciabattas, and triple chocolate meltdowns.

Hulen and Colleyville are both suburban neighborhoods that might be considered on the upscale side.

I'm blaming this on those two guys who co-opted the Gilligan's Island theme song to sell shrimp dishes. I'm forever reaching for the mute button during the NCAA tournament. At least the head honchos are shopping for a new ad firm. http://www.bizjournals.com/kansascity...

Blue Shoe Mike, says:

I believe the Colleyville location is closing because the land was purchased by the developer Richard Meyers. They have been trying to buy that piece of land for a long time to add to their "Village at Colleyville" development. I don't think it's because Applebees isn't doing that well there. That place is always packed for some reason.
