Gay nightclub in Denton vandalized and burned
Mable Peabody's Beauty Parlor and Chainsaw Repair had been open for 27 years (13 years under the current name and owner), without major incident until early Wednesday morning. Vandals broke in, stealing bottles of alcohol and completely destroying the Denton bar, before setting fire to it. Damages are estimated at $150,000 for Mable Peabody's and for smoke damage to the adjoining business, G.C. Starters.
It is not known at this time if the business was targeted because it was a club for gay men and women, though the case is being ruled as arson. Owner Kelly Sanders wants to reopen the club, but does not know when and if that will be possible given the damage and associated costs.
