Rhettheads respond to Rhett Miller
Yesterday, Rhett Miller announced on his blog that he wanted to have no affiliation with the Rhettheads fansite. Today, the Rhettheads shot back at Miller with this post from their MySpace fansite:
Hello Rhett,
We are not sure what is going on here. We're fans yes, big fans, otherwise we wouldn't take time out of our busy every-day-lives to maintain this page.
The idea behind this page was not to coin the term "Rhetthead", reminiscent of Deadhead or Parrotthead, which as you may or may not agree is a state of mind, not creepiness.
At no point did the Rhettheads page claim "inside access" into your world anywhere, anyhow, as you wrote in your blog. The comment about us going through your garbage though was cute. Was it the hospitality rider we published? That came to us directly from "High Road Touring".
At no point did we claim endorsement or "authorization" (didn't know we needed that, our bad) from you, publicly. Privately you might want to revisit the messages you sent to us on 12/22/06 and 3/15/07 which in our minds spell at least "approval".
How we "created unnecessary drama and trafficked (we are not Colombians) wierdly [weirdly] negative shit" is also a mystery to us. Was it the Duologue with Salim when he said that Drakoulias did not respect you?
Finally, we do not know you personally, we are not your friends other than on MySpace, therefore we do not know your possessive friends who attacked us here and slandered us on old97s.com, and in no way possible could we have singled them out and "said rotten things about them".
But, your blog caused this effect. We will stop maintaining this page (which is too bad since we had interviews with Grey DeLisle, Greg Beshers and Don DeLillo lined up) and you are free to spend your time documenting your own "unbelievable awesomess".
In conclusion, we never intended to do any harm to your name, and we are certain that we did not do that. We will still be fans of your artiste-ness and perhaps our paths will cross one day. Unfortunately, the term "Rhetthead" will forever be tainted in our mind.
Wishing you only the best. Take care.
