Ameriyaki Grill brings the teriyaki to McKinney
MCKINNEY If it's authentic you want, don't waste your time at Ameriyaki Grill. This semi-Asian place is about as fusion-y as it gets. It's basically a mom-and-pop's stripped-down version of Pei Wei (which, while good, is no temple of authenticity itself). Their featured item, the chicken wasabi and ranch wrap, pretty much sums things up. It's a tortilla stuffed with white meat chicken, Asian salad (looks like shredded cabbage), and wasabi-ranch sauce.
The menu has a bit of a teriyaki theme, not that you'd hardly notice: teriyaki rice bowls, teriyaki wrap sandwiches, and teriyaki burgers, all fulfilling the teriyaki-crazed vision of owners Kevin and Mariela Barnett. The couple grew up eating teriyaki bowls in Southern Calif., which they missed when they moved to McKinney in 2004. More power to them; people open restaurants with lots less motivation than that.

Ameriyaki may have brought Teri Yaki over, but I doubt she'll be there long. I hear she's flaky as week old nori.

not being as versed in what is or isn't authentic teriyaki, i'm willing to submit to the views expressed, but even as a novice, i would have imagined that the name was the first clue that this wasn't going to be an authentic asian experience.
