— An organization called the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), which is holding its annual conference on fund-raising this week at Dallas Convention Center, recognized six area students for the culturally expansive nature of their artwork. The students all attend the Oakridge School in Arlington, a private school whose students come from foreign countries.

Joanne You, who won first place, lives in Kennedale but is originally from Seoul, South Korea. Alli Chapin, the second-place winner, was unable to attend the conference. Sara Waller, who won third place lives in Grapevine. Honorable mentions went to Kylie Collier-Zavadil of Arlington; Dylan Deutsch of Southlake; and Alex Deese of Colleyville. The work of Johnice Parker is also on display during the conference.

The awards are part of a "diversity art showcase" which itself is part of AFP's 44th International Conference on Fundraising, taking place from March 25–28 with nearly 4,000 professional fundraisers from Texas and around the world. Actress Brooke Shields spoke to the group on Sunday, and Lance Armstrong will speak on Tuesday.
