Judicial Overhaul Act could jeopardize basic fairness
There is a very interesting opinion piece in the DMN today by Plano attorney J.K. Ivey about the Judicial Overhaul Act being proposed in Austin. Essentially, the act would take away the guarantee that court cases would be heard by locally elected judges, and give the Texas Supreme Court the right to handpick judges on an individual case basis. With all the money that flies around Austin, this could potentially compromise the basic fairness and integrity of the current system. Let's hope that lawmakers show a little discretion, but in the meantime Ivey's article is worth a read.
