TCU’s “SuperFrog” will appear on national TV show about mascots
FORT WORTH SuperFrog, the mascot of TCU, will make his debut on the Animal Planet channel in a special called Mascot Madness.
Airing Sunday at 7 p.m., the one-hour countdown will reveal the nation's No. 1 animal mascot. While the show seems a sure bet for mascot lovers, TCU fans may be disappointed, as it appears that SuperFrog merely has a walk-on role and is not a contender for the top spot.
The show is hosted by "animal expert" Jeff Corwin and ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso, and was timed to coincide with the NCAA basketball tournament's Final Four. Joining SuperFrog will be other college mascots including Buzz the Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket; Testudo the Maryland Terrapin; Bucky the Wisconsin Badger; the Cincinnati Bearcat; and Peter the Anteater from UC-Irvine.
A horned frog -- also known as a spiny lizard -- that subsists on red ants, SuperFrog has a feature on TCU's Web site in which he answers questions posed by prospective students.
Spoiler alert: Unfortunately, TCU's alumni magazine goes and ruins everything by revealing that a 2001 graduate, Lisa Albert, who's a communications specialist and cheerleading coach, flew to L.A. in January to play SuperFrog in the taped show.
