UPDATE: Salt Lake City musician accused of robbing his opening act in Denton reimburses victim

2

— Via our pal Amanda comes this warning in an open letter to local music bookers:

As you know, the music community in the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area is very protective of its members, be they musicians, promoters, producers, etc.

A young man, Lorin Madsen, out of Salt Lake city, recently played a small venue in Denton called J&J’s pizza. Using the name The Yearbook, he shared the bill with Will E. Lee, a Denton resident and local musician.

Typically the venue only gives the bands free beer and pizza, but in Mr. Madsen’s case Web was able to provide the artist $15. Mr. Madsen was unhappy with the pay he received. Unfortunately Mr. Madsen did not discuss the terms of payout in advance of booking the show, which is Mr. Madsen’s error.

Taking matters into his own hands, Mr. Madsen then decided to remove Will E. Lee's amplifier from the venue and chose to pawn the amp at McBrides music and pawn, located next door to J&J’s pizza.

I would like to implore you to use caution if you are a venue owner, booking agent, promoter or band and you are contacted by Mr. Madsen or The Yearbook.

Those of us in the immediate Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area will not forget what happened to one of our own, and I can assure you that Mr. Madsen will not be welcome back to our area again.

We've contacted Madsen for comment and will update if we hear from him.

Amanda Newman, says:

Will E. Lee is someone I booked in the past. I've never seen him drink, in fact, he is, from my experience, very shy, passive and quite quiet...a far cry from what I've read in Mr. Madsen's alledged My Space messages.

Granted...I'm cutting and pasting from My Space Bulletins that I have received over the past few days (I've removed the profanity)...however:

REPOST!!!!

Dude likes to steal #### from fellow musicians and pawn for gas money.

then tries to justify it by saying.

-You left it where a douchebag could steal it -I thought I was stealing from someone else -It wasn't worth stealing/pawning (which he did) -I thought it was my amp (the one not worth stealing/pawning?!) -You enjoy alcohol -I didn't steal it

www.myspace.com/theyearbook

he steals amps and pawns them for gas money!

this *hole stole our friend Will E. Lee's amplifier from J&J's pizza here in denton Texas and proceeded to pawn it NEXT DOOR at McBrides music and pawn!

here is a message that he sent to will after being contacted about this little indiscretion:

"Look man, I didn't know that was YOUR amp...I thoguht you were talking about a different amp that was sitting down there. Look, here is the ####ing deal. You don' ####ing tell me what to do alright? You just don't KID. Don't try and tell me what I owe you and how you will make it so I never play Denton again or anywhere near there...because you don't have that kind of control. You were Drunk from the time I walked into that ####ing place, until the time I left that night....you definately did not look like you cared about much...so how was I supposed to know that was yours? As for me pawning a piece of equipment from J n J's...that's because it was the biggest ####ing joke I have ever delt with on tour...you have to be kidding me! I asked Web for 20$ UPFRONT...and he coudn't even do that, he gave me 15$....I mean come on!!! It was a joke man, nothing more than a big ####ing joke playing at that place. If you don' want #### stolen...then take care of it...or don't let people like J n J's keep an eye on it in their basement where NOTHING is protected.

My opinion....have Web give you 35$.....it's his venue, OR use your money to get your amp back...not to get pills and beer like to did all day when I was there. sorry..."

and another message from this douche:

"wow....well since you have decided to act like to most immature human I have ever spoken to I have nothing left to say. Your vocabulary is quite small for a man telling me he will " Play a better show after drinking like you wouldn't believe..." real mature man.

As for me admitting to stealing your amp...I never did, I told you it was a complete mix up of equipment. The fact you are SO mad about a practice amp the size of fist is absurd. I am glad you feel like you own me and my music carreer in the state of Texas....but you don't own ####ing #### pal. You are more than welcome to come find me in Texas anytime you'd like.....but wasting your time over a PRACTICE AMP that costs 35$ dollars??? Please....get a job son....

p.s. J n J's never said anything about not paying bands out, that was THEIR FAULT. AND, YOUR fault for leaving your #### in an un protected environment...

Don't message me again unless you want harrasment charges brought up pal. get a job..."

well, I say we show this ####er that he won't be playing shows in TEXAS any time soon!

also, PLS REPOST!!

Amanda Newman, says:

I've heard back from Will.

Mr. Madsen has reimbursed Will for the amp.

Will considers the matter closed.
