Upsetting story about a pack of dogs killing cats in East Dallas
DALLAS An unspecified pack of dogs is supposedly going on a cat-killing rampage in East Dallas, according to WFAA in a story that's depressing on a number of fronts. The three dogs, described as a black lab mix and two German shepherd mixes, have killed at least 17 pets, mostly cats, according to info compiled from neighborhood associations. Dallas Animal Services did catch one of the dogs Friday morning, but the other two are still roving about. The story says that loose-animal calls are not a priority for Dallas Animal Services. They take an hour or more to respond, by which time the animal has moved on. In 2006, they received more than 49,000 calls; more than 20,000 were about loose dogs.

Can anyone explain why loose animal calls are not a priority for Dallas ANIMAL Services? Isn't that what they are paid to do. WTF!

Maybe it's cheaper and more efficient to pick up the loose animals with a shovel than it is to chase them around with a net. Promotions may have been handed out on that tax dollar stretching idea! Besides, the new laws make it the owner of the loose animals problem (if they were responsible enough to pay for one of those injected ID tags) rather than the city's problem. Everybody wins...

Our neighborhood and our family has experienced some of the cat killing in East Dallas. However, I think it was more attributable to the well fed coyote living on our block. And yes, we had a confirmed siting at 2:00 in the afternoon as he went running down the middle of the street.

Turns out there are still three dogs and they have been residing under my house...the city came to get them out...but the dogs got away. There was only one way out for these dogs and they got out. The city made a mess of the outside of my house and wouldnt talk to me when I tried to ask if the dogs were still there or not. I have three dogs and a cat that go outside and I feel for my safety and theirs I should be told if the strays are under there and if they are going to be a danger to any of us.
