Denton ISD’s physical education department planning fishing expedition
The Adapted Physical Education Department of the Denton Independent School District is planning a special “Learn to Fish – Fish for Life” expedition starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Eureka Park in south Denton.
The group, part of the district’s special education department, received a grant from the Denton Public School Foundation and involves students in the Life Skills and Social Adjustment Classes from Strickland and McMath Middle Schools. They are the first students to receive angler training, which includes lessons on knot tying, casting and the aquatic environment. The fishing expedition culminates the life-long learning program.
The training and planning was coordinated by Dr. Linda Hilgenbrinck, supervisor of Adapted Physical Education Services, and Linda Thibault, adaptive physical education teacher. Several middle school teachers, aides, and adapted physical education teachers have received angler education training from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
For additional information, contact the DISD Special Education Department at (940) 369-0135.
