Red carpet gala at the Inwood: The Wendell Baker Story
The Wilson boys return to their neighborhood theater.
When all three acting Wilson brothers show up together at the Inwood, you know it's either a) the mid 1980's, where you've just journeyed via time machine to the era when the Wilson boys used to take in the Saturday matinée here, or b) Monday, May 7, 2007, where they've shown up at the invitation of the AFI folks to receive AFI Star Awards for their ongoing contribution to the advancement of cinematic entertainment. Or sentiments to that effect.

Owen allows as to how it's about time for the movie to start, so we'd all better head on into the theater.
Oh, and they're also there to "premiere" their film, The Wendell Baker Story, even though it premiered once before (in 2005, actually) at the SXSW festival in Austin. Wendell begins a limited U.S. commercial run later this month (opening on May 18 at the Angelika).
The backstory is that the Wilson boys grew up across the street from a local family named Perot, and so it was fitting that H. Ross Jr. was on hand to introduce them to the folks who hung around after the red carpet event to watch the movie. The Wilson boys (all three) attended St. Mark's School of Texas, just in case you wanted to add them to your tally of notable St. Mark's denizens (i.e., Tommy Lee Jones, Steve Miller, Boz Scaggs... oh yeah, and H. Ross Jr.).
H. Ross Jr. mentioned the 3-11-0 designation bestowed upon the Wilson boys by his dad, H. Ross Sr.: 3 boys, 11 educational institutions and 0 degrees. And yet, here they are today, the toast of the town. Go figure.

Really great photos, sir. The blonde that "looked thrilled" to be behind Luke was an intern for AFI. I guess that crew reserves the right to hop onto any random cinematic event, even though the festival has been over for more than a month.

Glad you liked the photos. One that I didn't include here was a shot of the fire truck that pulled up to take care of the lady who keeled over from heat stroke just as the festivities were preparing to kick off - the murmurings were that she fell right on top of a Fox 4 media person... though I didn't get to see that part.

I attended this event, and it was a great success. The theater was packed, and the film itself was very entertaining if a little light-hearted. All three Wilsons and even Kate Hudson were there and also at the after-party at the Ghostbar. I recommend checking out the film when it opens soon at the Angelika, if only for its Texas roots.
The blonde is not an intern, she's the Materials and Supplies Coordinator with the press for AFI and was working the event. It wasn't a random event - it was the official premiere of the film, hosted by AFI (i.e. the film & the Wilsons wouldn't have been here without them). Another AFI event takes place tonight at the Inwood, with Francis Fordd Coppola in attendance. We're lucky AFI Dallas has the reputation and financial support to bring our previously-deprived city events like this all year long, not just during the festival.

Excuse me but Steve Miller graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School (class of 1961), not St. Mark's.

The event on Monday at the Inwood was awesome and I was fortunate enough to get (Luke put me on the list himself). The Ghostbar After-party was pretty swank but after the free drinks ran out at 11pm I declined to stick around for $9 bud lights. I'm really surprised it took the Wilson boys this long to get involved with the "local" film festivals here (I'm sure the USA Film Festival people are seething with jealousy).
